Creating art has always been a passion of mine, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to share my work with the OU community! The Writing Center has always felt like a second home to me, so when I was approached about creating a piece for their newly redecorated space, I jumped at the chance.
The result is Where Journeys Begin, a watercolor and ink painting that now hangs proudly behind the front desk. The painting depicts a familiar campus archway, but with a twist: a storm brewing in the distance. This contrast is meant to represent the challenges and triumphs that students experience throughout their academic journeys. I also wanted to highlight the collaborative spirit of the Writing Center, so I included two figures sharing an umbrella as they walk together.
P.S. The eagle-eyed among you might have noticed the number 1989 incorporated into the archway. This is a nod to the year the Writing Center was founded!
